Course Outline
Lithino Workshop 02 is the second half of the lithography on lino workshops. It is essential that Lithino Workshop 01 is done before commencing onto Workshop 02.
In this day session you will learn how to print your lithino printing matrices made in Workshop 01. We will be printing in monochrome using hand printing methods. If you have access to an etching press during the zoom course, then Mary can also guide you through the pressures and settings required for printing your lithino.
We will look at the lithographic marks and how we can then combine these with lino cutting relief marks. We will look at editioning, paper choices, hand printing methods and further developments beyond the zoom workshops.
Materials
Printing roller/brayer
Traditional oil based ink in black. NOT the water washable oil based inks or modified oil based inks. Traditional inks made with linseed oil and pigment. I recommend Intaglio Printmaker Litho/Relief inks
A mixture of paper samples to text handprinting. Not beyond 120gms as it becomes hard to print by hand. Japanese washi, for instance Tozo Washi is perfect. You can also just use photocopy paper to get the process going.
Wooden spoon for handprinting
Lithographic crayon, ideally a selection of hard and soft.
Liquid Lithographic Drawing Ink/Autographic Ink
Stick Tusche (if you already have liquid tusche, all good)
Lithographic Rubbing Ink/tablet
Gum arabic in solution
2 lithographic sponges or nice large sponges
small container or bowl to hold water and sponge. It will get inky.
access to water
lino carving tools
selection of paintbrushes and dip pens and other drawing tools (sticks, feathers etc)
3 x glass or ceramic containers with low sides
miscellaneous studio items - tape, pencils, scrap paper to sketch, paintbrushes
